The hilly side of the city is the older one, because already the Romans had settled there at around the birth of Christ. In the medieval times they started to build a fortressed city on a hill against the Huns. The then so called castle district became the economical and cultural center of the city until the 19th century.

Now, apart from some office and commercial centers, it is mainly a residential area. The whole region’s history is here from the Romans, to the Turks, Habsburgs and wonderful Bauhaus buildings.
