Like pearls on a chain - Castle hill and Gellert hill

The Melting Pot.

In the 12 and 13th century Hungary was victim of attacks by hunns and tartars. They had to build up cities, which were able to defeat the inhabitants. So the castle district was build up as a medieval "melting pot" with people from Hungary,

Germany, Italy and France. These colourful, richly decorated facades still remind us of those days. The fascinating Matthias church and its framing Fisherman’s Bastion are a "must see" on a visit to Budapest.
